Marketing vs. Business Development
For Service-Based Businesses It Can Get Messy
đź—ť Marketing and business development are often one and the same. Co-mingling in grey space. Causing confusion for siloed teams and RevOps. đź—ť
Likely you are not creating and buying mass media or more traditional outbound initiatives. You are networking, connecting and presenting to reach your ideal prospect in more intimate forums. Nonetheless, you are still driving traffic back to your digital presence. Be that LinkedIn, Social or your website…which are highly effective and essential marketing tactics.
Make sure your business development efforts are not wasted with ineffective marketing, ie. confused messaging, hidden product positioning and a lack of clarity of your ideal prospect.
Your messaging is EVERYTHING and all free/paid marketing and biz dev efforts will fall short if you are not communicating your value well.
Your ideal prospect will “creep” the heck out of you before they waste any time speaking to anyone in person. Make sure everything out there serves to inspire them vs. deter them. And it can be a slippery slope.
